The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), in partnership with the Rustenburg Local Municipality and Total South Africa, invites members of the media to the launch of the National Arbor Week campaign to be held in Rustenburg, North West, on Thursday, 1 September 2011.
The National Arbor Week campaign is celebrated annually from 1 to 7 September and the theme for this year’s campaign is: Forests for people. The campaign comes at a time when the United Nations has declared 2011 the International Year of Forests, adding greater impetus to our civic responsibility of caring and preserving our environment.
The National Arbor Week celebrations will take place just before South Africa hosts the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 17) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, from 28 November to 9 December 2011.
