International working visits by President JG Zuma

President Jacob Zuma will today, 24 January 2010, depart for Davos, Switzerland to attend to the 40th Annual General Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to be held from 27 to 31 January 2010 under the theme “Improve the state of the world: rethink, redesign, rebuild”.

The President will stop over in Tripoli, Libya to have a consultation with the Chairperson of the African Union, His Excellency Colonel Muammar Gaddafi tomorrow on 25 January and then proceed to Davos.

In the Davos meeting, President Zuma will be accompanied by National Planning Commission Minister, Mr Trevor Manuel, Finance Minister, Mr Pravin Gordhan, Economic Development Minister, Mr Ebrahim Patel, Trade and Industry Minister, Mr Rob Davies as well as Water and environmental Affairs Minister, Ms Buyelwa Sonjica.

The 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of WEF will focus on the following four areas of inquiry and their global, regional and industry dimensions:
* how to strengthen economies
* how to mitigate global risks
* how to ensure sustainability
* how to enhance security.

In view of the strong 2010 FIFA World Cup promotion focus, Davos, 2010, the overall theme driving South Africa’s participation in WEF, Davos, 2010, is “Experience South Africa”. The President will promote South Africa as a destination and will assure international audiences that the country is ready to host the world cup in all respects.

On conclusion of his working visit in Davos, President Zuma will depart for Ethiopia to attend the African Union Summit, accompanied by amongst others, Minister of International Relations Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and Communications Ministers, Siphiwe Nyanda. The summit will run from 30 January to 2 February.
