The Limpopo Provincial Government will on 3 December 2009 celebrate the International Day for People with Disabilities. The event is scheduled to take place at Gidjana Tribal Authority in the Thulamela Municipality in the Vhembe District.
International Day of People with Disabilities is aimed at creating awareness about disability matters among members of the society. It is celebrated globally on 3 December with the aim of promoting the rights of people with disability. According to United Nations people with disability constitute 20 percent of the population living in poverty in the developing world.
The provincial government is joining the rest of the world in promoting the positive message of inclusion the disabled people. It is of a view that people with disabilities should be given equal treatment and stands proud to join the world in empowering them to gain access to food, education, employment, health and other services.
This year‘s event will be celebrated under the theme “Realising the millennium development goals for all: Empowerment of persons with disabilities and their communities around the world working together we can do more with persons with disabilities.” Members of the media are invited to the event. People will be entertained by Conny Chauke, Rapson Rambuwani and Brass Bands.
