Integrating the values of Ubuntu/Botho into the 16 Days of Activism Campaign

The commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children campaign will this year integrate Moral Regeneration Movement aspect with the aim of reviving the values of Ubuntu/Botho in the society. In the provincial event to be launched on Friday, 25 November 2011 in Kroonstad, the Moral Regeneration Movement, now under the Department of Social Development, will be revived.

The main focus of this year’s activities is to encourage a caring society through the revival of Ubuntu/Botho values coupled with concurrent ideals as enshrined in the Constitution. By the advancement of Ubuntu/Botho values, the society will become part of a comprehensive and sustainable programme to eliminate the physical, mental, emotional, or social abuse that is directed against persons because of their sex or gender.

Mostly vulnerable and powerless people like women and children are victims of physical and emotional abuse thus leading to violation of their human rights. The 16 Days of Activism Campaign takes place annually from 25 November to 10December. Other commemorative dates for the campaign include 1 December (International HIV and AIDS Day), 3 December (International Day of People Living with Disability and 10 December (International Human Rights Day).
