The Innovative Society of South Africa, Free State based youth development organisation will march against human trafficking and drug abuse this Friday in Bloemfontein.
The march will be supported by the Free State Provincial Government, Mangaung Municipality and other stakeholders. These include celebrities like Lesedi FM’s DJ Finzo, the band Kaya, gospel singer Teboho, Thuso Motaung, kwaito artist Masheleng, afro-fussion group Alah Yen amongst the many to join the march.
The aim of this march is to raise awareness around the issue of human trafficking and drug abuse within the province; this is to remind all citizens that each and everyone must blow the horn against this global problem. Like Pope Benedict XVI reminds us, human trafficking and drug abuse is a real ‘scourge’ of our time and is generally referred to as ‘modern day slavery'.
In the Free State Province, particularly in Bloemfontein, there have been a number of cases that have been raised in regard to this scourge and as such the Innovative Society of South Africa and the Free State Executive Council led by Premier ES Magashule call on all the communities, business and private enteritis to rally in support of the campaign by joining the march in freeing ourselves from this ‘modern day slavery'.
Human trafficking and drug abuse, due to its underground nature, there are no official records of trafficked persons with estimates varying extensively. Some estimate that there are 27 million in slavery worldwide, that approximately 800 000 people are trafficked across national borders and this does not include the millions trafficked within their own country.
Child trafficking is said to be on the increase and the United Nations estimates that child-trafficking alone generates 7 to 10 billion US dollars annually for traffickers.
The march is to take place from the City Hall via Nelson Mandela Drive (the far left lane between President Brand Street and Markgraff Street to be corned off), turn left into Markgraff until Lebohang Building. Then join St Andrews Street to Hooffman Square where the programme of the day will take place.
