Ingquza Hill massacre commemoration

President Jacob Zuma will on Monday, 7 June 2010 address the 50th commemoration of the Ingquza Hill massacre, also known as the Pondoland Revolt of 6 June 1960, at Ingquza Hill, Flagstaff in the OR Tambo district, Eastern Cape.

This three day event started on 5 June and is the initiative of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs; the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture; province of the Eastern Cape; Ingquza Hill municipality; OR Tambo district municipality; national House of Traditional Leaders; as well as the National Heritage Council.

It involves the communities in the areas of Ingquza Hill, Lusikisiki, Flagstaff, Bizana and other villages in the OR Tambo district.

The reburial of 23 of the people who were killed will be part of the commemoration.

The event will start at 09h00.
