Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) invites manufacturers to demonstrate the latest frequency spectrum monitoring equipment

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) is inviting   manufacturers and service providers of frequency spectrum monitoring equipment to demonstrate and exhibit the latest technologies and equipment available on the market.

This invitation is extended in the light of the Authority's intention to replace old frequency spectrum equipment in its Head and regional offices.

The purpose of this demonstration is to assist the Authority in developing specifications for procuring new frequency spectrum monitoring equipment. Interested service providers are invited to demonstrate the latest technologies and equipment in the market.

Some of the specifications for the radio spectrum equipment include:

  • Monitoring capabilities from 20 MHz to 6 GHz, remote controlled from the Sandton Head Office.
  • Direction finding equipment capabilities from 20 MHz to 3 GHz, remote controlled from HQ.
  • The monitoring network consists of 12 Fixed sites, 2 Mobile sites and what they can supply in transportable units.
  • All monitoring equipment needs to be digital and the different digital transmissions can be monitored with the equipment.
  • Indicate if the monitoring and direction finding units are combined or not.
  • Requirement for the monitoring procedures to comply with the standards of International Telecommunications Union.

ICASA as a regulator of the electronic communications industry is required by enabling legislation to licence and monitor the radio frequency spectrum, to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and to prevent interference among licensees.

The details for demonstrating the capabilities of their monitoring equipment are as follows:
Date: 23 and 24 October 2012
Venue: Block C, Presentation Room, 164 Katherine Street, Sandton
