Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) holds public hearings on Advertising, Infomercials and Programme sponsorship for broadcasting service licensees

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa will hold public hearings on regulations with respect to Advertising, Infomercials and Programme Sponsorship for Broadcasting Service Licensees.

The intention of the draft regulations is to repeal the 1999 Regulations relating to the definition of Advertising and the Regulation of Infomercials and Programme Sponsorship in respect of broadcasting activities.

The authority published draft Code and Regulations on Advertising, Infomercials and Programme Sponsorship in Notice No 31903 on the 13 February 2009. The Authority received 17 submissions and seven of them have indicated that they are interested in making oral presentations.

It should be noted that the hearings will be held with respect to the draft Regulations and not the Code.
