Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to hear applications by Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd for I-ECNS and I-ECS licenses

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa hereby invites the public to the public hearings in relation to the applications for Individual Electronic Communications Network Services (I-ECNS) and Individual Electronic Communications Services (I-ECS) licences by Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd.

During March 2009, the Authority published an “invitation to apply” following the issuing of a policy directive by the Communications Minister on 6 February 2009. The directive was for ICASA to conduct the necessary processes to accept and consider applications for the I-ECNS and I-ECS by Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd to amongst others, enable the state to expand availability and affordability of access to electronic communications networks and services.

The Authority received the application from Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd and will accordingly hold public hearings. The hearings will, further to the responses received for Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd application for I-ECNS and I-ECS licences, afford interested parties the opportunity to make oral representations to the Authority in relation to Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd application. Each person making a representation will be afforded a total of 60 minutes, 15 minutes of which will be for questions and answers.

The Authority would also like to inform interested parties that written responses / submissions on the application for Broadband Infraco (Pty) Ltd are available on the ICASA website, www.icasa.org.za and the ICASA library. The library is open from 09h30 to 16h30 during week days.
