Inauguration of the new Chief of the South African National Defence Force

On Tuesday, 31 May 2011, the former Chief South African National Defence Force General Godfrey Nhlanhla Ngwenya will hand over command of the South African National Defence Force to Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Solly Zacharia Shoke. The Commander-in-Chief, President Zuma, recently appointed Lt Gen Solly Shoke as the Chief of the South African National Defence Force (CSANDF).

The historical event will comprise of the following highlights:

The parade will be preceded by a swearing-in-ceremony of Lt Gen Shoke as the new chief of SANDF, followed by a photo opportunity.

General Salute Fly Past consisting of:

  • 17 Round Gun Salute
  • Salute flight of two Agusta A-109 Helicopters with the front helicopter displaying the National Flag of the Republic of South Africa and the rear helicopter displaying the South African National Defence Force Flag, and the Rooivalk.
  • A CASA 212 Transport Aircraft dropping ten parachutists to hand over the scroll.

Mass Fly Past consisting of:

  • formation Flight of Four (4) Agusta 109, two (2) AS-32 Helicopters and a Rooivalk
  • a BE-30 King Air and Four (4) C-208 Caravan Transport Aircraft formation flight.
  • a CASA-212 Transport Aircraft, two (2) C-47TP Turbo Daks formation flight.
  • two C-130 Transport Aircraft.
  • nine PC-7 Mark-2 (Four (4) Trainer Aircraft and Five (5) Silver Falcons) formation flight.
  • four Hawks Fighter Trainer Aircraft formation flight.
  • five Gripen Fighter Aircraft formation flight.
  • a Rooivalk, two AS-32, Five Silver Falcons Bow Salute
  • five Silver Falcon display.
