Implementation of laws protecting children evaluated

Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana is to meet with United Nations (UN) agencies, children’s rights groups and other stakeholders in Pretoria on Monday, 4 April  to review the implementation of key legislation that has been put in place to protect and promote the rights of children in South Africa.

The meeting will receive progress reports on the implementation of Children’s Act and Child Justice Act. Both pieces of legislation came into effect in April last year and ushered in a new era in the protection of rights of children in the country.

After a year of implementation, Minister Xingwana and stakeholders in the children’s rights sector will be assessing the effect that these laws have had on the lives of children in South Africa.
