The DMR is relying on the sentencing of a convicted illegal miner 28 September 2011, in the Umlazi Magistrates court, Kwazulu-Natal, to send out a stern message of deterrence to individuals involved in illegal mining operations in South Africa.
In the case between Dollar Mining Trading CC and the DMR, the accused was found guilty on charges relating to mining without a right, permit, or permission, failure to comply with a directive or order given to it in July and August 2011, as well as failure to comply with a directive or order given to it in February 2011.
