Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale will hand over 55 houses during The Annual Women’s Build in Brandfort, Free State on the 18 August 2011

Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale will hand over 55 houses in Brandfort, Free State to commemorate the historical 1956 women’s march.

The Minister will be accompanied by the Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities Lulama Xingwana, Deputy Minister of Human Settlements Zou Kota-Fredericks, Deputy Minister of Water Affairs Rejoice Thizwilondi Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Public Works Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, Deputy Minister of Police Makhotso Sotyu and the Free State provincial cabinet.

Under the supervision and guidance of qualified builders, more than 100 women volunteers were mobilised and are being trained to lay bricks, plaster and build foundations to construct 100 houses during the women’s month (August 2011).

Women’s build is a Letsema project coordinated annually during women’s month. It is a partnership project between the Department of Human Settlements, private sector and the community to raise consciousness about the construction sector and the women’s role in it.  It also promotes volunteerism and women’s access to human settlements economic opportunities.
