Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale will launch a new affordable housing project for mineworkers in Rustenburg on 7 October 2010.
More than 1 500 homes have been built for workers at Impala Platinum Mine in a joint venture between the company and government’s National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC). The houses, all 2 or 3 bedroom units, cost between R225 000 and R265 000. In line with Minister Sexwale’s vision of integrated human settlements – as opposed to mere housing projects – the mine owners are also building social amenities such as a school, places of worship and a clinic.
Minister Sexwale will be accompanied by North West Premier Ms Maureen Modiselle, Human Settlements MEC Ms Desbo Sefanyetso, Bojanala District Municipality Executive Mayor Raymond Motsepe and Rustenburg Executive Mayor Jeanette Dibetso-Nyathi.
Members of the media are requested to convene at the Sunrise Park Community hall for a technical media briefing. Journalists will also be able to interact with Minister Sexwale and other dignitaries during a walkabout of the project from 10h00.
