Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will today Monday 31 October 2011 depart from South Africa for Berlin, Germany where she will pay an official visit from 1-3 November 2011 (Tuesday to Thursday).
Minister Dlamini Zuma’s visit to Germany comes against the background of efforts to re-engineer the department of Home Affairs as a security department, and with a view to exploring international best practice in terms of the management of civic and immigration affairs.
In this context, Minister Dlamini Zuma, supported by a senior government official delegation, will hold discussions with her German counterpart State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior Dr Ole Schröder in Berlin on Tuesday 1 November 2011 to exchange views on the German model of dealing with immigration, refugees, asylum seekers and civic management.
While in Berlin, Minister Dlamini Zuma will also pay a visit to the German Bundesdruckerei (Government Printing Works) to share experiences in the printing of enabling documents such as ID’s, birth and death certificates for citizens.
Minister Dlamini Zuma will conclude her visit to Germany with a key note address at the oldest university in Germany, Humbolt University during a ceremony to honour the second winner of the Caroline von Humboldt award in research, Constanza Toninelli. Ms Toninelli who currently holds a PhD degree in Physics will pursue the following topic of study: “Organic Molecules in Disordered Photonic Structures: from co-operative effects in mesoscopic ensembles to a random quantum network.”
Minister Dlamini Zuma who will return to South Africa on Friday 4 November 2011, is currently attending the Socialist International Commission for a Sustainable World Society Conference in Johannesburg as part of a build-up towards COP17 Conference scheduled for Durban later in the year.
