Home Affairs Deputy Minister to unveil birth registration services at Pretoria East Hospital

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ms Fatima Chohan, will on Friday, 24 February 2012 unveil services for the registration of new born children at the Pretoria East Hospital.

This comes as part of the department's ongoing drive to encourage South Africans to register their babies within 30 days of delivery in line with the objectives the National Population Registration (NPR) campaign.

The NPR campaign was launched by President Jacob Zuma and Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma with a goal to ensuring that each and every citizen, young and old, has been registered and has the right document at any specified time of their lives.

The purpose of this campaign, is to ensure that the registration of all child births is done within 30-days of delivery and to end late registration of births, 16-year-olds and above apply for identity documents and to safeguard the integrity and security of the NPR.
