HIV testing

Premier Maureen Modiselle is calling on people of the North West province to support the national call for all to participate in the month long HIV Counselling and Testing campaign.

The national Department of Health is targeting at least 15 million to undergo testing and ensure they know their HIV and AIDS status. The North West province has a population of about 3.4 million residents and according to Premier Modiselle the provincial government expects that up to 80 percent of North Westerners should have tested by end of the campaign which kick-starts during April 2010 till June 2011.

The provincial launch for the HIV Counselling and Testing campaign will start at 09h00 on 30 April 2010 at Matlosana stadium in Jouberton, Klerksdorp. Politicians who will undergo public testing in support for the campaign include Premier Modiselle, Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and MEC Rebecca Kasienyane of the provincial Health and Social Development Department.

"I must plead with the citizens of North West province to be ready for this noble cause. Let's embrace the benefits of knowing our status to save our lives and of those dear to us. Knowing your status is the best means of survival, it provides an opportunity to review our lives and choose a lifestyle that will promote longevity. Anyone can live with HIV, it is not a death sentence," Modiselle advices.
