The Department of Health takes the fight against HIV and AIDS to the most vulnerable communities of our society as the Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi launches the first-ever Farming Sector HIV and Counselling (HCT) campaign on 4 July at Rashoop Skietbaan in Brits, North West.
The aim of the HCT campaign is that farm workers should know their status early as well as to create a healthy environment for them. This will be done by massively scaling of HIV and Counseling HCT services in public and private facilities, homes, workplaces and public spaces.
Through the campaign, the Department of Health enable and arrange for people who are positive to have access to treatment, care, and support leading to a reduction in the transmission of HIV and AIDS.
In his budget speech, the Minister of Health has urged South Africans to confront the scourge of HIV and AIDS through prevention and HIV testing and promotion campaign.
During the launch, the department will conduct the following activities:
- Massive voluntary HIV counseling and testing.
- Information, education and mass mobilisation.
- Detection and management of sexually transmitted infections.
