Department of Higher Education and Training, Commission for Gender Equality and Higher Health launch an outreach campaign to make campuses safer spaces and stop GBV
The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Dr. Mimmy Gondwe working in partnership with the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) and Higher Health (HH) a national agency that is responsible for comprehensive student development, health and psychosocial well-being, also supporting young people on issues of Gender Based Violence, mental health and civic education among other critical matters, will on Monday 24 February 2024, launch an outreach campaign to promote safer campuses that are free from sexual harassment and gender-based violence incidences.
The outreach campaign follows a sexual harassment report released by CGE in October 2024 with alarming findings of sexual harassment and abuse at higher education institutions.
The report flagged several concerning matters including “sex-for-accommodation” and “sex-for-marks” as particularly troubling trends.
In addressing the report findings, the Department of Higher Education and Training under the leadership of Deputy Minister Dr Gondwe will launch the outreach campaign to raise awareness and assist higher education institutions to implement measures to improve safety for all.
