Heritage Dialogue

The Department of Sports Arts, Culture and Recreation will host a Heritage Dialogue on African History and Culture. The primary objective of the Dialogue is to promote and restore the African history and culture through the Lejweleputswa Arts and Culture Centre within the Lejweleputswa district. This is part of Heritage Month celebration during the month of September.

The Department established this dialogue in 2011 with a view to celebrating and imparting knowledge about African history and culture particularly among young people through Senior Citizens.

Heritage Dialogue is a project which not only aims to preserve and restore history, but promotes cultural exchange, redress cultural imbalances and develop the intercultural exchange. It also aims to improve the social, cultural and economic condition of artists and the community through activities that raise consciousness, education and development for local artists.

Topics identified for discussion are as follows:

  • Boitshwaro, ho ila, Manyalo and Mafu (Values and morals)
  • Dijo le Moaparo (Traditional food and Clothing)
  • Dipapadi le Dipina (Indigenous games and traditional music)
  • Meloko le Diboko (Traditions and customs)
  • Maele, Puo, le Mabitso (idioms, language and naming of our children)

The Dialogue will be hosted as follows:

Venue: Lejweleputswa Arts and Culture Centre (Former Thabong Arts Centre)
Time : 11h00

The event is expected to reach about 150 to 200 young people within the district.
