Healthy lifestyle for school learners on spotlight as Health Deputy Minister visits Atteridgeville Schools

As Gauteng basic education schools officially opens today, 16 January, Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, will tomorrow pay a visit to Phathudi and Susion Secondary Schools in Atteridgeville, a township in Tshwane.

As the national Health Department plans to amplify school health programme, Dr Ramokgopa is expected to share with the learners viable means for them to stay healthy and not being vulnerable to diseases.

Dr Ramokgopa, who is also a leader of the African National Congress Atteridgeville Parliamentary Constituency Office, will be accompanied by local councillors and Gauteng Education Department officials. The Parliamentary Constituency Office plays a pivotal role in overseeing and helping local communities with their concerns and in escalating them to relevant institutions such as parliament and legislature.

The delegation will use this visit to interact with learners as part of an intervention to respond to the learners' challenges at the schools.

The school visit is therefore scheduled as follows:

Date: 17 January 2012
Venue: Tshwane, Atteridgeville
Time: 07h45 – 09h30 (Phathudi Secondary School)
10h00 – 11h30 (Susion Secondary School)
