Health Minister tours Mpumalanga to strengthen public private partnerships (PPPs)

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi will tomorrow, Thursday, visit several health facilities in Mpumalanga as part of efforts to strengthen Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in the delivery of healthcare in South Africa.

The visit comes amid increasing efforts by the Department of Health to partner with the private sector especially mining to combat diseases such as HIV and AIDS and tuberculosis (TB). The health Minister will start his visit at the Anglo American coal mine in Witbank where he will meet with the company's CEO and be given an overview of the company's HIV and AIDS and TB workplace programme. The Minister will also have an opportunity to meet and interact with the patients at the mine's hospital.

The Minister will conclude his tour with a visit to Bhubezi Community Health Centre (at 14h00) situated in Bushbuckridge. The Bhubezi Community Health Centre serves approximately 70 000 people living in 21 villages around the Agincourt sub-district in Bushbuckridge. The facility focuses mainly on diseases like HIV and AIDS and TB and malaria, the latter being common in the area.
