Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi will this week (13 & 15 August) take the National Health Insurance (NHI) road show to Eden District, Western Cape province as part of the department's mission to make the pilot work.
During the road show the Minister will address a range of stakeholders including general practitioners (GPs), hospital chief executives, clinical managers, nursing managers, hospital and clinic governing bodies with an objective of getting them to identify their roles in ensuring the success of the NHI pilot project in the district.
Health workers and labour unions operating in both health and education sectors will also have an opportunity to engage the minister during the road show.
It is expected that the minister will take the opportunity to request general practitioners (GPs) in the area to dedicate their time to serve in public health facilities.
