Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi will today, 12 April address the opening of the National Mental Health Summit at St Georges Hotel, Centurion, Tshwane.
The two-day summit, expected to be attended by mental health specialists, non-governmental organisation providing mental health services and health MECs is expected to deal with a range of issues in the mental health sector including:
- mental health promotion and prevention of mental disorders
- strengthening of mental health policies and programmes
- child and adolescent mental health
- suicide prevention
- culture, mental health and indigenous mental health practices.
One of the key outcomes of the summit will be the development of a framework that will outline and provide guidelines for immediate and long-term action that must be implemented to scale up investment in mental health services for the improvement of mental health and well being of all South Africans.
