With huge changes being introduced in the health system to ensure quality health services, primarily through the soon to be introduced National Health Insurance (NHI), a team of health professionals will assemble at the National Quality Summit to develop tools to serve as performance indicators for the health system.
The summit is expected to develop a list of indicators to be incorporated to the Health Department's monitoring and evaluation system. These indicators will be central to quality improvement at health facilities and they will also serve as early warning indicators for poor performance.
The summit will be held tomorrow, 21 November 2011, at Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre, Boksburg. It will be led by Health Deputy Minister, Dr Gwendoline Ramokgopa.
The summit will have special focus on:
- Measuring Clinical Quality and Patient Safety,
- Measuring Quality as experienced by patients,
- Measuring management performance and compliance.
Sharing quality measurement approach best experiences with the deligates will be speakers from various organisations such as the United Kingdom (UK) health regulatory authority called National Health System Quality Observatory, University of Pretoria, University of KwaZulu-Natal, MEDICLINIC South Africa and Department of Health.
