Health Department intensifies war on HIV in Limpopo farms

The fight against the spread of HIV and AIDS will be under the spotlight as Health Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Gwen Ramokgopa and the Limpopo MEC for health and Social Development Dikeledi Magadzi extend the HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) campaign to the farming community on Sunday (21/08) at ZZ2 farms near Mooketsi.

The main objective of the (HCT) campaign in farms is to encourage farmers, farm workers and dwellers to do comprehensive health tests to know their status to enable them to make informed choices about their reproductive health and take precautionary measures to eliminate all health risks, including the need to prevent diseases.

During the campaign the department together with partners such as AGRI-AIDS and Aurum Institute will amongst others conduct free HIV tests, conduct screening for Tuberculosis (TB) and Cervical cancer including  administering immunisation for children.

"We want to make sure that our people know their health status irrespective of where they stay and work. Farm workers do not find time to visit health facilities even for obvious things like immunisation therefore we have a responsibility to take services to them as we are serious about building a long and healthy life for all our people", Magadzi said.

It is expected that the MEC for Agriculture, Mme Dipuo Letsatsi will also attend the campaign.

N.B: Deputy Health Minister, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa will deliver a keynote address during the event.

Media is invited to the campaign scheduled as follows:
