Limpopo Government launches Disability Month, 6 Nov

Limpopo Provincial Government together with Human Rights Commission set to launch the Provincial Disability Month. The disability Indaba will follow immediately after the launch of the disability month. November has been officially declared the disability month with the aim of educating and upholding the rights of disabled people.

The disability awareness month is recognised globally as it is pioneered by the United Nations and this year is themed “Break barriers, open doors to realise an inclusive society for all”.

The objectives of the disability awareness month are:

  • Report back to communities on progress made in the implementation of policies, programmes and legislation that seek to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities
  • Engage on public platforms to explore and showcase innovative ways and means by which barriers to the inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families can be broken down.

The launch is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date: Thursday, 6 November 2014
Time: 9h00
Venue: Nirvana Hall, Polokwane.

The South African Constitution also embraces people living with disability. The country’s Constitution upholds their right, and prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. The rationale behind this conception is to remove perceptual barriers to create an embracing and accessible society for all people.
