Handover of Makgolokweng and Diyatalawa Multipurpose Sport Courts

Makgolokweng and Diyatalawa, areas just a few kilometres from Phuthaditjhaba in Qwa Qwa, are some of the most rural areas in the Free State. These areas have in recent times seen a number of developments following the intervention by the Free State Provincial Government.

On the 23rd of July 2011 these two small communities of Diyatalawa and Makgolokweng will also start enjoying the benefits of Multipurpose Sport courts.

The Multipurpose Sport Courts in Diyatalawa and Makgolokweng will be the sixth (6th) and seventh (7th) to be opened in the province respectively. The opening of these facilities follows the commitment made by the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr Dan Kgothule, during his 2011/ 2012 budget vote where he declared that “The building of these sport facilities paves the way for our vision of encouraging all people in our communities to actively take part in different sport and recreational activities”.

These facilities, as the name says, allow for a variety of sporting codes to be played simultaneously on the same platform. Other Multipurpose Sport Courts opened by Mr Kgothule during this financial year are in the following towns: Vredefort (4 June 2011); Heilbron (11 June 2011); Petrus Steyn (18 June 2011), Luckhoff (25 June 2011) and Van Stadensrus (9 July).

“The handover ceremony of these Multipurpose Sport Court facilities indicates our continued vision to promote and enhance the development and encourage the participation of our people in sporting and recreational programmes” stated Mr Kgothule.

The official handover of these Multipurpose Sport Courts to the community of Diyatalawa and Makgolokweng will take place at 10h00am and 12h00am respectively on the 23rd of July 2011.
