The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development cordially invites you to the hand over of agricultural tools to 11 schools. Each school would be given a wheelbarrow, five spades, five fork spades, five rakes, two hosepipe, four handsets and five hoes.
This programme is part of the department's efforts to instil the passion of agriculture science to learners and teachers. The schools were identified by both the departments of education and agriculture and rural development.
This is part of pilot project aimed at intensifying the department's 4H programme at schools, which is encouraging schools to have garden school. The beneficiaries included schools from the Amathole region; in East London is Sinovuyo Senior Secondary, Ebhenezer Mambozi Senior Secondary, Gwaba Senior Secondary, Lingelethu Senior Secondary , Tsholomnqa Senior Secondary and in Debenek is Dilizilintaba Senior Secondary , Nozalisile Senior Secondary , Zwelimjongile Senior Secondary while Kolomane Senior Secondary, JM Ndindwa (Seymour) and Lushington Senior Secondary (Balfour).
The department's Human and Institutional Capacitating chief directorate is embarking on an intensive programme that will restore the dignity of agricultural science in our schools and this will help the provincial economy, which is largely dependant on agriculture.
Following an agricultural youth summit that was followed by a series of career exhibitions a need was identified to engage schools in programme that would also see teachers given practical workshops to revive the knowledge.
