As part of efforts to achieve an integrated approach to service delivery, the Departments of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), Communications (DOC), and the Limpopo Provincial Department of Agriculture in partnership with the South African Post Office (SAPO) and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), will jointly celebrate World Post Day and World Food Day at Muyexe Village in the Greater Giyani local Municipality in Limpopo Province.
Muyexe village is one of the key presidential priority areas earmarked for the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP).
The main objective of World Food Day is to create awareness of the fight against hunger. This year World Food Day is commemorated under the theme: “achieving food security in times of crisis.”
There will be a working session in the morning where the Minister of DAFF, Ms Tina Joemat-Petterson together with the First Lady, Ms Sizakele Khumalo, MEC of the Limpopo Department of Agriculture, Ms Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba, and FAO representative, Ms Rosebud Kurwijila, will set up a tower garden.
The Department of Communications in partnership with the South African Post Office (SAPO) and Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) will commemorate World Post Day in an effort to showcase government’s integrated service delivery approach. A postal address system for the village will be rolled out.
The Minister of Communications General Siphiwe Nyanda will deliver a keynote address highlighting the significance of the Post Office in bringing essential services closer to the people in a bid to improve their living conditions. The Deputy Minister of Communications, Ms Dina Pule, Director-General, Ms Mamodupi Mohlala and Post Office board Chairperson Ms Vuyo Mahlati will also be in attendance.
The event will be held under the theme: “Postal service for green growth.” This theme is in line with universal efforts to raise awareness about the threat posed by global warming, and to urge all citizens of the world to play a role in saving the planet.
The collaboration of the two departments, provincial and local government will give credence to CRDP.
Members of the media are invited to take part in the celebrations.
