The Deputy Minister for Women Children and People with Disabilities invites the media to the community intervention programme in Zastron on 22 and 23 April 2014. The programme includes the launch of the Thusanang Women’s Poultry Project.
As part of addressing concerns highlighted during our interaction with the community of Zastron, the department has invited relevant partners from various spheres of government to educate the community on how to access government information and services. This intervention programme has been scheduled to take place on 22 to 23 April 2014 in Matlakeng Community Hall, Zastron.
The aim is to enhance governance and community development through public participation. A two-day programme is attached for ease of reference.
The Deputy Minister was deployed by the ANC NEC as part of election campaigns to Zastron on 15 to 16 March 2014. During the door to door and public meeting discussions there were number of concerns that were raised by the community such as ID application delays, road accident fund claims delays, social grant application delays etc.
Related to young people, issues such as lack of information with regards to starting businesses, forming cooperatives, how to access funding for small businesses, financial assistance for young people to further their education and training, information on learneships and internships were highlighted.
All the above issues will be addressed through a stakeholder engagement during the two day community interaction programme. The relevant departments invited will interact directly with community members to resolve these issues and advise community members on how to access government services in general.
Furthermore, on 23 April 2014 at 15h00, the Deputy Minister, Hon. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, will hand over the Thusanang Women’s Poultry Project to Mrs Mapalesa Khewane to start the poultry business with other older women with disabilities in the community.
