Women's football action as tournament reaches final stage

More exciting football action is promised this Saturday and Sunday ( 24 to 25 August  2013 ) as the Women’s Football Tournament that has been underway in the five Gauteng regions since July 6, culminates to the final stage this weekend.

The tournament is in its second year and was inaugurated last year as an effort to boost women’s football and make strides in the development of future stars of the game, an endeavor of the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in conjunction with SAFA.

Dellville stadium in Germiston, Ekurhuleni will host the two-day football play-offs. The competition will feature qualifying senior teams from the preliminary phase of the tournament that was contested per region from 6 July  to  25 August  2013.

The preliminary stage of the tournament also featured ladies junior teams (under 13 and 19 ). Gauteng MEC for Sport,  Arts,  Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile says the development of women’s football should not be overlooked:

“We have committed to growing this programme in the coming years to ensure it not only helps in increasing women’s participation in the sport but to also ensure that the tournament becomes the breeding ground for skilled officials, administrators, and tomorrow’s female national stars,”  said Maile.

The schedule of the tournament finals is as follows:

Date : Saturday 24 and  Sunday 25  August  2013
Venue : Dellville stadium, Germiston
Time : 09h00
