Western Cape MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde to conduct boat-building factory visits

Western Cape MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde, will visit three of the province's boat-building yards, Southern Spars in Montague Gardens, Matrix Yards in Killarney Gardens and Nautic Africa at the Cape Town Harbour.

These companies are global leaders in the construction of high technology sailing masts, builders of luxurious sailing catamarans and one specializes in high speed patrol vessels, which are used by many countries to clamp-down on piracy and illegal poaching.

The site visit will shed light on the behind the scenes operations needed to produce international luxury sea vessels. Boat-building is a competitive and fast-growing sector of our economy, which generates more than R1 billion for the region's GDP each year and creates employment for over 2 500 residents.

MEC Winde will outline the province’s continued support of the industry and our plans to grow the Western Cape into Africa's boatbuilding hub.
