Western Cape hosts Khayelitsha youth soccer tournament and Lwandle men’s march against violence, 6 and 7 Dec

This weekend, the 16 Days of Activism campaign for No Violence Against Women and Children continues with activities across the metro.

Tomorrow, Saturday 6 December 2014, Western Cape MEC of Community Safety, Dan Plato, and Western Cape MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Nomafrench Mbombo, in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS) will host a youth soccer tournament in Khayelitsha.

The tournament as well as the activities and exhibitions on offer will bring together 240 young men and women from across Khayelitsha, friends, families and the extended community in raising awareness about safety and the importance of the family in the fight to eradicate abuse and violence from our homes and communities.

On Sunday, 7 December 2014, MEC Plato, will partner with the Helderberg Archdeaconry of the False Bay Anglican Church for their “Men’s march” for no violence against women and children in Lwandle.

The march will bring together five churches in the Helderberg and up to 300 men are anticipated to take part in the march through the residential areas affected by domestic violence and abuse.

The Western Cape Government, together with safety partners as a collective, challenge every person in the province to ensure that “Safety starts in the family” and observe 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children towards 365 days of action to eradicate violence from our communities, Better Together.
