Western Cape Government's free Wi-Fi hotspot to be launched in Robertson

As part of the Western Cape Government’s R1.3 billion broadband rollout plan, the Free WiFi project will be launched in Robertson tomorrow, connecting an additional 20 000 residents to free wireless internet.

It is the third hotspot launch this week. On Monday, Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities in the Western Cape, launched the Eden hotspot. Yesterday, Premier Zille, MEC Winde and Education MEC Debbie  Schafer launched the Atlantis project.

In November 2013, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism opened the call for proposals for non-profit organisations to access grant funding to set up free Wi-Fi zones. Another hotspot will be launched in Delft in October this year. The models used by the different NPOs are the test cases the Western Cape Government will consider going forward.
