Water and sanitation summit

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane, will be hosting a two-day water and sanitation Summit on the 1 and 2 August 2014. The purpose of the Summit is to bring together all stakeholders within the water and sanitation sectors to share information and create a platform for cooperation towards ensuring a coordinated effort for the delivery of these crucial basic services.

The summit will bring together not just the relevant government role-players in the form of the expected attendees, namely, the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning and Performance Monitoring, the Ministers of Science and Technology and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, as well as the Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni.

The attendees will include the heads of the relevant public entities, for example the CEO of the Water Research Commission, the CEO of Rand Water, the Acting Director-General of the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) together with other high ranking officials of the department, including other interested parties.

Minister Mokonyane expects that part of the outcome of this Summit will lead to concrete plans that will enhance the performance not only of the department, but of government in the ideal of moving the country forward and ensuring security of water supply as well as bringing dignified sanitation to the South African populace.
