DWS in Gauteng, in collaboration with the Departments of Basic Education and Health, the City of Tshwane, and Rand Water, will host a Public Education programme at three Municipalities in Gauteng, the City of Tshwane, the City of Johannesburg, and the City of Ekurhuleni.
The Public Education Programme aims to educate communities about water conservation, water demand management as well as best health and hygiene practices among others. Activations include community engagements, school-based educational activities, and road shows.
In 2019, South Africa and the rest of the world were hit by the Corona Virus Covid 19 pandemic. Hand washing was identified as one of the measures that can be put in place for infection control and to curb the spread of the virus and communicable diseases.
It is against this background that the Department of Water and Sanitation, in collaboration with other various departments and stakeholders, wants to actively engage Gauteng residents, including primary school students and their educators, on water conservation, good hygiene practices, and healthy lifestyles.
