DWS Director-General to meet water sector role players to solicit inputs and comments on the proposed raw water use charges for 2024/25
Members of the media are invited to a national consultation meeting on the proposed raw water use charges for the 2024/25 financial year which will be chaired by the Department of Water and Sanitation Director-General, Dr Sean Philips, on behalf of Minister Senzo Mchunu at Birchwood Hotel, on Friday, 25 August 2023.
The national consultation meeting aims to get inputs from the sector’s key role players on the proposed charges before the final approval by Minister Senzo Mchunu as mandated by Section 42 of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), which states that extensive consultation should be undertaken before an organ of State increases any price of bulk resources supplied to municipalities and municipal entities.
Dr Phillips will engage stakeholders on various issues that relate to water use charges and service provision. Some of the discussions will include the status of bulk water infrastructure in the country, progress on the verification and validation of issuing of water licences in 90 days, as well as institutional reforms in the water sector.
