Water and Sanitation briefs media on Tulbagh Bulk Water Supply Project, 5 Nov

Sod turning at a multimillion Tulbagh bulk water supply project marks the commencement of construction

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in the Western Cape in conjunction with Witzenberg Local Municipality invites members of the media to a sod turning event of a multi-million Rand Tulbagh Bulk Water Supply Project. The Sod turning will mark the beginning of construction for this project which is co-funded via DWS’ Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant at a tune of R43 Million.

Witzenberg Local Municipality experienced serious water problems during the 2004/5 drought period, specifically in the town of Tulbagh. An investigation was conducted in 2008 which quantified all available water resources (surface and ground water). The investigation found that there were major inadequacies around the available water resources in Tulbagh, Wolseley, and Prince Alfred Hamlet (PAH).

The project is set to

  • Unlock low-cost housing delivery and the boost water security for that region upon completion.
  • Create the much-needed job opportunities for locals.
