Water and Environmental Affairs Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi to lead the 5th Annual Youth Water Summit

The Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, will lead the fifth annual Youth Water Summit which will include learners and educators from South Africa and other African states. The week-long event will take place in Birchwood hotel, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, from Monday, 1 July to 5 July 2013. The main event will be on Friday, 5 July 2013 whereby overall winners in different categories of innovative water initiatives by the youth will be announced.

The theme for this year’s summit is: “Meaningful participation of Africa’s Youth in water resource management can contribute to sustainable development”.

The main objectives of the summit are: To bring together young people to a centralised venue for the purpose of knowledge sharing on issues of water, environment and climate change; to foster awareness of water and environment and increase enthusiasm in youth to pursue water related careers; to expose learners and educators to topical issues on water and climate change.

During the Summit young people will go for excursions to get a better understanding of water resource management, participate in public speaking and debates, and participate in different competitions. A total of 1 000 delegates (learners and educators) are expected to attend this historic summit.

The exhibitions by the department and water sector partners will be running throughout the week from 9h00 – 16h00.
