Transport Deputy Minister Honourable Sindisiwe Chikunga will officially open and launch the realigned 1 November (N1) freeway through Ventersburg in the Free State province.
The N1 freeway is the main road transport corridor between the cities of Cape Town and Gauteng via Bloemfontein, and passes between the Mmamahabane Township on the eastern side of the N1 and Ventersburg on the western side.
Many local businesses in Ventersburg rely on through traffic on the N1 which could no longer cope with high levels of traffic. The N1 freeway was a two-lane single carriageway and has now been upgraded to a four-lane divided carriageway. The project costs are estimated at R295 million.
Joining the Deputy Minister during the official launch will be Free State Premier Mr Ace Magashule, MEC for Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State, Mr Butana Khompela and other provincial MECs, senior national, provincial and Municipal officials, members of the community and the media.
