Background

The FMIP III is a €20 million programme that is funded by the European Union (EU), and managed by the Chief Directorate: Capacity Building (CD:CB) in the Office of the Accountant- General at the National Treasury. The programme provides a technical support facility for the enhanced implementation of the Public Management Capacity Development Strategy (CDS).

The CDS comprises four strategic objectives, namely to support the development of an enabling environment, to enhance organizational capacity, to develop and empower a corps of competent and high-performance employees, and to create an environment that enables and sustains a mutually beneficial stakeholder relationship.

National Treasury recently secured an additional €2 million from the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) to strengthen the implementation of the CDS, through the FMIP III. The additional UK funding will be utilized to support critical capacity

building initiatives including: monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, i-Develop, PFM ETD solutions, revenue management, strategic sourcing and infrastructure procurement.
