As part of the continued effort to make South Africa’s roads safe, the Transport Ministry is pulling all stops to encourage greater safety for all road users, motorists, passengers, pedestrians, taxi, truck, bus, short and long distance drivers.
Transport Minister, Honourable Dikobe Ben Martins together with Transport Deputy Minister, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, are visiting various provinces across the country interacting with road users during this Easter holiday season in order to encourage greater safety on the roads.
The Minister and Deputy Minister have interacted with road users in Gauteng, the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal provinces as high traffic volumes headed for various destinations throughout the country for the Easter holidays.
Next on the itinerary on the two principals will be the Eastern Cape, Limpopo and the North West (details to be provided later) provinces.

The integrated road safety activations are a partnership between the Ministry, provincial Departments of Roads and Transport and Community Safety and Liaison, the South African Police Services, Municipal Police Departments, the Department of Health, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) and private sector organisations.
During the activations, the Minister and Deputy Minister will be joined by Roads and Transport MECs in the respective provinces and will disseminate road safety information and messages to motorists, passengers and other road users in the area and surroundings.
The two principals will also assist with pre-trip inspections that will be conducted to ensure the roadworthiness of vehicles and the fitness of drivers.
Law enforcement officers have also stepped up road safety operations throughout the country this Easter period in order to reduce the carnage.
