Transport Ministry pulls out all stops to encourage safer roads during Easter

As the Easter holidays come to a close and traffic volumes begin to subside, Transport Minister, Honourable Dikobe Ben Martins will visit the North West province to further spread the message of road safety in the continued effort to make South Africa’s roads safe.

Inland schools will reopen on 9 April and traffic volumes will once again rise as pupils and the remaining holiday makers make their way back to both city centres and areas of work throughout the country.

Minister Martins will once again pull all stops to encourage greater safety on the country’s roads by interacting with motorists, passengers, pedestrians, taxi, truck, bus, short and long distance drivers.

The Minister will be joined by the North West provincial MEC for Public Safety, Nono Maloyi and senior national and provincial officials during the road safety activation.

The details of the activation are as follows:

Date: Friday, 5 April 2013
Venue: Potchefstroom Weighbridge on the N12 Highway, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District, North West province
Time: 10h00

The integrated road safety activations are a partnership between the Ministry, provincial Departments of Roads and Transport and Community Safety and Liaison, the South African Police Services, Municipal Police Departments, the Department of Health, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) and private sector organisations.

Law enforcement officers will also step up road safety operations throughout the country this in order to reduce the carnage.
