The Minister of Transport, Honourable Dipuo Peters, has called a two day National Road Safety Summit to address the carnage on South Africa’s roads.
Joining the Minister for this critical consultative engagement on road safety, will be the Transport Deputy Minister, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, MECs responsible for Roads, Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Chief Executive Officers of Transport State owned Companies, Chiefs of Traffic Management and Law Enforcement, Municipalities and Institutions of Higher learning.
The two day Summit to be held under the theme, “Together Championing Road Safety 365 days”, is an inclusive call to all road users and stakeholders to contribute towards ensuring a reduction in road deaths, a decrease in crashes, a change in road user behaviour, voluntary compliance to road traffic rules by road users and making road safety part of everyday life in the country.
This summit will also deal with legislative amendments aimed at improving road safety – through adopting the traffic law enforcement code, addressing road infrastructure and endorsing behaviour that promotes safety through administrative justice.
