Transport Department to hand over torch of peace to Basic Education Department for safer schools and safer roads
The Department of Transport will hand over the Torch of Peace to the Department of Basic Education as part of the interface between the Safer Schools and Safer Roads programme.
During the event, Transport Acting Director-General, Mr. Mathabatha Mokonyama will hand over the Torch of Peace to Department of Basic Education Acting Chief Director, Dr. Sharmain Mannah signifying the transition from the Festive Season Road Safety campaign to the Safer Schools campaign.
This partnership from the departments emphasises the importance of road safety in the learning and teaching environment and serves as an appeal to the transport sector involved in scholar and public transport to pledge and commit to “safer transport” for learners across the country.
The event will be attended by senior government officials, the Executive Management of private sector organisations and stakeholders in the transport sector.
