Transport Deputy Minister takes Road Safety message to holiday makers as part of 2012 Festive Season Campaign

Deputy Minister of Transport Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga will interact with holiday makers during a Road Safety Beach Festival at the Duran Beach front as part of the 2012 National Festive Season Road Safety Campaign to reduce the carnage on South Africa’s roads.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by Eastern Cape MEC for Roads and Transport, Thandiswa Marawu, road traffic law enforcement officers, the South African Police Service, senior national and provincial government officials and key transport sector stakeholders.

Various South African artists will entertain the holiday makers during the festival.

With many of the holiday makers having arrived in Durban and other destinations for their holiday, Deputy Minister Chikunga will emphasise:

  • the importance and personal responsibility each road user has to use the road correctly by following all the rules of the road;
  • the dangers of drinking and driving;
  • the dangers of drinking and walking;
  • the importance of keeping within the prescribed speed limit;
  • the importance of driving and travelling in a roadworthy vehicle;
  • important tips to use as holiday makers make their journeys back

Deputy Minister Chikunga will disseminate road safety information and messages to the holiday makers during the festival.

Law enforcement officers have stepped up road safety operations throughout the country this festive period in order to reduce the carnage on the roads.

Together, we can save millions of lives!
