Transport Deputy Minister puts road and rail safety under the spotlight inn Cape Winelands

Transport Deputy Minister, honourable Sindisiwe Chikunga will on Friday, 16 August 2013, visit and engage with communities of the Winelands District in Cape Town with the objective of further spreading the message of road and rail safety in the province.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by the MEC for Roads and Transport in the Western Cape, Robin Carlisle, CEOs of transport state owned companies – the Road Accident Fund (RAF), Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), the Rail Safety Regulator (RSR) and senior national and provincial officials during the visit.

Deputy Minister Chikunga’s visit forms part of the Department’s 365-Days Road Safety Program, which for the month of August, focuses on Cycling and Passenger Safety, Pedestrian and Scholar Safety.  Also linked to the programme is rail road safety awareness.

As part of this awareness drive, the Deputy Minister will also visit both Cloetesville Primary and Cloetesville High Schools where she will hand out various road and rail safety material and products and address learners about the importance of the initiative.

The Deputy Minister will also visit and engage with the elderly community at the Kayamandi Senior Citizens Club at the Ikhaya Trust Centre.
