All media is invited to join the Deputy Minister of Transport, Honourable Sindisiwe Chikunga on a level-crossing safety campaign to be hosted by the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR).
The RSR recorded a high number of level-crossing incidents in its 2011/12 State of Safety Report. A considerable number of these incidents were in the Western Cape and are attributable to human (motorists) behaviour.
As part of the interventions to mitigate these kinds of incidents, the RSR published the Level Crossing Standard in April 2012 and continues to conduct information sessions nationally with all operators.
