Tomorrow, the Portfolio Committee on Transport will visit the Johannesburg-based Gibela Consortium, the company that had been awarded the R51 billion tender by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) to build 600 new trains.
The Committee Chairperson, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, said the venture was positive and an example of what could happen when government worked well with the private sector. Gibela will officially launch the programme tomorrow, and is expected to deliver well over 3 600 new carriages that will be manufactured in the country. Ms Magadzi will lead the Committee.
